OUR STORY
A business born on the James River
We didn't set out to start a boat tour company. We set out to find a little peace — and discovered the best place to find it was right here, on the water, in the city we love.

“A boat ride is what happens when the water teaches your mind how to slow down.”
"The river doesn't know what day it is. And for two hours — neither do you."
“Out on the water, even silence feels like part of the conversation.”
HOW IT STARTED
A Family, a River, and a Simple Idea
AllSeaZen's Boat Tours started the way most good things do — not with a business plan, but with a feeling. After years of watching Richmond grow and change from the shoreline, we kept coming back to the same thought: this river deserves more attention. And the people rushing past it deserve a reason to slow down.
We're a family-owned and operated business, and everything about how we run reflects that. The charcuterie boards are made fresh before every tour. The playlists are curated, not shuffled. The captain greets you by name. Because when you spend $300 on an experience, you deserve to feel like the only people on the water — and on AllSeaZen's, you are.
Richmond has always been a city with a river in its heart. We built AllSeaZen's to make sure people don't forget that.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our Mission & Philosophy
Three principles guide everything we do — from how we stock the boat to how we train our captain to how we respond to a last-minute booking call.
We believe peace is non-negotiable
In a world that never stops moving, two hours of genuine stillness is not a luxury — it's a necessity. Everything about AllSeaZen's is designed to create that stillness: the pace, the music, the route, the conversation your captain won't force. You came to exhale. We make sure you can.
We believe details are everything
The charcuterie board isn't just food — it signals that someone thought about your experience before you arrived. The curated playlist isn't background noise — it's the difference between a pleasant ride and a memory. We sweat the small stuff because that's where the magic is. Every tour gets the same obsessive care, whether it's a party of two or a group of ten.
We believe the James River is extraordinary
Most Richmond residents have seen the James from a bridge. Very few have watched the city skyline drift past from the water at golden hour. The river reveals a version of Richmond that most people never get to see — and it's our privilege, every single tour, to show it to someone for the first time. That moment never gets old.
We believe in showing up, fully
We don't run tours on autopilot. Every departure is treated like it's the first one we've ever done and the most important one we'll ever do. That means a clean boat, a stocked cooler, a captain who's genuinely happy to be there, and a commitment to making sure you leave feeling like the afternoon was exactly what you needed — even if you didn't know what that was when you arrived.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BOAT
Meet the AllSeaZen's Family
Every person on this team genuinely loves the James River, loves Richmond, and loves making people feel welcome. That's not a mission statement — it's just who we are.
Stephanie
CO-FOUNDER & HOST
Stephanie is the heart of AllSeaZen's — the one who decided that a boat tour in Richmond should feel like being hosted by a friend, not a company.
She handles every booking personally, curates every charcuterie board, and has an uncanny ability to make any group of strangers feel like they've known each other for years by the time the tour ends.

A Richmond native with deep roots in the city, Stephanie has watched the James River change with the seasons for her entire life and never gets tired of it. Her favorite tour is the sunset cruise in late September, when the light on the water is, in her words, "almost embarrassingly beautiful."

John
CO-FOUNDER & CAPTAIN
John has been on the water his whole life — from childhood fishing trips with his father to recreational boating on the James for the past two decades.
When he and Stephanie started AllSeaZen's, he brought something most tour operators don't have: a captain who actually knows every bend, sandbar, hidden cove, and great blue heron nest on the river.

He holds a full USCG captain's license and takes safety seriously without ever making it feel like a liability briefing. Guests frequently say they didn't expect the captain to be the highlight of the tour — and then John opens his mouth about the history of the James River and they change their minds immediately.

The River
THE THIRD PARTNER
We're only half joking. The James River is 340 miles long, runs through the heart of Virginia, and has been shaping the story of Richmond since before the city existed.
It's home to bald eagles, great blue herons, river otters, osprey, and a remarkable variety of fish — most of which you'll spot on a clear morning tour if you're paying attention.

The James changes personality with the seasons: calm and glassy in summer, golden and theatrical in fall, sharp and still in winter, alive with birds in spring. No two tours are exactly alike — the river makes sure of that. We're just grateful to spend every working day on it.

BEYOND THE TOURS
Rooted in Richmond
AllSeaZen's isn't just a business that operates in Richmond — it's a Richmond business, through and through. We live here, our kids go to school here, we eat at the same restaurants you do and watch the James River change with the same seasons you do.
That connection shapes how we operate. We source our charcuterie from local Richmond vendors. We recommend local restaurants to our guests when they ask where to eat. We care about the health and cleanliness of the James River because we're on it every single week.
"Richmond has always been a city with a river in its heart. We built AllSeaZen's to make sure people don't forget that — and to give them a reason to fall in love with it all over again."
